Welcome to Pikku-Rumpalin!

Jack Russell Terrier is a very energetic little dog, often described as "a big dog within a small one". The big ego can be easily seen at the stables, where a small Jack often assumes that a much larger horse will yield. Jack Russell is an intependent adventurer and will come up with things to do, for example by chewing up your favorite chair. That's why it is so important to keep your Jack busy with all kinds of activities.

We train in agility, artificial caves and tracking. We also train basic obedience and visit dogshows every now and then. Long walks in the forrest, going swimming in the summertime and hanging around at the stables are also a part of our everyday life. Jack Russell Terrier is a wonderful dog for all kinds of activities and I haven't come up with one that wouldn't suit a Jack. The trick is to get your Jack motivated which is pretty easy thanks to his strong instincts for hunting.

To me the best quality of a Jack Russell is his honest and open character. A Jack won't be startled easily and he knows to relax when nothing intresting is happening but when needed will blaze up and work for hours without exhaustion! Because Jack Russell is a working terrier and bred for in-ground work, I will test every dog in artificial caves to see the capacities. All other indication of the right kind of character will be seen in everyday life and how the dog reacts to startling situations.

Health is as important as character. Inherited disorders of Jack Russells are juvenile cataracts, lens luxation and patella luxation. Some cases of epilepsy and Legg perthes are known. Jack Russells are a part of Finnish Kennel Club's programme for Prevention of Inherited Disorders and all litters registered under FKC must be from eye- and knee-examined parents. Needless to say all my dogs are examined and even the sterilized ones will have their eyes examined on regular basis.

I hope you enjoyed your visit!
